How To Draw A Kidney Diagram Step By Step
The kidneys are a pair of excretory organs in the lower back of our bodies. Each kidney is reddish-brown, bean-shaped, and measures 10-12 cm long and 5-6 cm wide. It has a weight of around 140 gms. The inner side has a concavity known as Hilus. The renal artery, renal veins, and ureter all pass into these kidney depressions. Each kidney has 1,000,000–1,250,000 nephrons, which filter the blood. Nephrons are kidney functional units that pump blood and sustain Homeostasis. They are found on the left and right sides of the retroperitoneal space and are about 12 centimetres (4+12 inches) long in adults. They collect blood from the paired renal arteries and exit blood from the paired renal veins. Each kidney is connected to a ureter, which is a tube that transports excreted urine to the bladder. Learn how to draw kidney in this article below.
How to Draw Kidney
The kidney regulates the number of different body fluids, fluid osmolality, acid-base equilibrium, electrolyte concentrations, and the elimination of toxins. Filtration takes place in the glomerulus, where one-fifth of the blood volume entering the kidneys is drained. Reabsorbed compounds include solute-free water, salt, bicarbonate, glucose, and amino acids. Hydrogen, ammonium, calcium, and uric acid are examples of compounds secreted. The kidneys also perform tasks that are not dependent on the nephron. They, for example, transform a vitamin D precursor to its active form, calcitriol, and synthesise the hormones erythropoietin and renin.
Today we will learn how to draw kidney that is easy and enjoyable. This would be a very simple kidney drawing that can be used as a learning stage to draw a professional sketch. Your biggest limitation is your creativity. Start with this simple kidney diagram and work your way up to see what other ideas you can come up with. Let's begin by taking a look at some of the simple art supplies we'll be using today.
Materials required:
- Drawing paper
- Sharp Pencil
- Eraser
Step 1 – Start drawing the body
We will be starting with the inner side of the body. For this, you will need to draw a free-hand curve. Make sure the curve is steep and not very long. Now extend the lines from both the end to make a little longer. This will look like a open tube.
Step 2 – Complete the inner part of the kidney
From one end of the curve, you will have to start to draw connector-like tubes. These are what connects with the bean shape of the kidney. It is responsible for the various functions carried on by the kidney. To draw these, you will have to make multiple tentacle-like shapes.
Step 3 – Draw the ureter
From one end of the curve and another end of the tubes, extend the lines. Do not make a straight line, make sure it a curved line. The ureter is wide when it starts from the kidney and narrow when it reaches down. So keep this in mind when drawing the ureter. At the end of the ureter, you need to close it to make it look like a tube. For this, draw a circle connecting the ends of the ureter.
Step 4 – Draw the body
This is the most important part when you draw a kidney. The shape you give the kidney is what matters the most. The outer body needs to cover the entire inner body. For this, you need to draw a wide curve. You can check the image below to understand how your kidney needs to look.
Step 5 – Draw the nerves
Next to the ureter, draw another tube-like structure. This has to be thin. The structure connects itself to one part of the kidney. Now you need to draw another tube-like structure from this tube. This then deviates into two inside the middle of the kidney.
Step 6 – Shade the tubes
Now your kidney drawing is ready. You just have to add in all the detailing. First, shade the tubes with a blunt pencil. Now draw small dots all over the shaded area and also in the ureter. Inside the kidney, draw thin lines all over.
Step 7 – Finish the diagram
To complete the drawing of the kidney, draw small dots all over the drawing. Your diagram should look something like the below if you have followed all the steps correctly.
